Sorry for the inexcusable absence from the blog, but Taipei is far more overwhelming than expected.

I have gained a few unwanted extra pounds,

sore overworked limbs and am always worrying about being friggin constipated.

Not too sure how much time it may take

to catch up on an extreme lack of sleep especially with the

weekend round the corner.

however, am pledging to post more often

with plenty of Spring/Summer inspiration to rejoice as i

embrace the hot yet cool weather...

and that was exactly what i did last night

my first time at a KTV in Taipei!!

compared with the prices back home

it is relatively costly to sing here whether you eat or not

*stupid me, i didn't eat*

they have the latest songs, very updated

except English songs

but i managed to belt out a few that i knew

including MJ's Beat it

My crowning glory

i've had black hair for the longest time i remember

the only time i colored my hair

was when i was in NZ and

that was like some decade ago, if i recall correctly

black has always been my perennial choice

because it is fuss free

and i don't have to go for any touch up

and mostly because i can't deal with sitting hours and hours

waiting for my hair to be done

but out of the blue

one fine day

introduced by my friend, who has this mane of gorgeous hair

that i really envied i decided to check out the salon

who colored her hair

Spingky Salon is located at Jalan Song

very close to One Jaya shopping mall, right above Pizza Hut

that day i thought i was just going to check the place out

but i sat down and started to look at the color chart and the rest was history

and on that fateful day

with the encouragement from a few friends

emboldened by the stylists i decided to bleach my hair to color my hair

but because i wanted a quickie my hair turned out awkward

lighter at the crown and darker at the ends

so the next day i had it rectified on the house

choosing a different color altogether, an ashy series

Anthony and Korea together to the rescue again

this time round i left my hair entirely to the professionals and kept my mouth shut

i didn't rush them unlike the day before

silky and shiny hair is what you get when you don't rush them

leaving them to do it at their own pace

but their hands were deft

cause they were good at what they did best

and all i could say was i was pleasant surprised

that my hair remained soft and silky even after that bleached it twice

back to back in two days!

Additionally, Korea, who took charge of my hair was very patient with me

and was also very focused on the job

being the perfectionist that he is

i'd be thankful, grateful (eternally), appreciative if the Big Man up there would give me a break once in a blue moon and stop giving me so many obstacles that probably Zena or Hercules could only overcome, or the Potter boy himself. After a whirlwind trip to Sibu, and a canceled trip to Singapore, I found myself in Taipei again in late March, this time with only my parents.

The night markets were not spared of course but this time the massive shopping centers i passed on them because the trip wasn't a leisure holiday. It was rather more like a spiritual one than it is a shopping trip. But night markets are a must because there is always a good bargain somewhere....trinkets and all.

A slight recap from my last trip here in October, the weather then was much hotter while it is really windy and cold now. Thinking that it should be entering Spring i brought alot of florals and light jackets i ended up buying a hugeass jacket in the end to fight the cold. And everyday now and then i'd find myself walking into 7/11 to buy the hand warming packs cause they were cold even though i had gloves on. I brought only a pair of jeans and bought another pair, thank god i did cause in my suit cases were mostly floral skirts etc...

And there were more bad news, but i do not think i want to share with the whole world. I'm sorry, some things do have to be personal cause i really don't have want to have to talk about it, especially now. Life would consist more of traveling from now onwards. ;) everyday when i think about it, i'd just tell myself how gullible i was to believe everything i hear or see. Maybe it is because i do not go around with a motive. They say you will never meet a liar unless you are one, and i believe that is true.

moving on to lighter and cheery things, here are some photos i took at the xin yuan bed&breakfast at Yilan and it is nothing less than remarkable. The place is beautifully done up and the ambience is great, cosy and homely which is just great because i am homesick, really. gosh i really miss my fifi and i hope my tbrother and aunty has fed him well and kept him hydrated. He must be crazy wondering where his mummy has left him. I feel so guilty now. If only animals could fly too!

so much for now. some zai nan needs to use the pc and judging by the look on his face i think he is very pissed that i've been hogging the pc for way too long.

Life as it is

each time i am upset or moody i am inspired to write

but as soon as the Xanax kicks in

i lose all motivation and everything is point blank again

but one thing remains for sure, and that is i’m upset again

at a time when everyone is busy scooting around town making last purchases

before they usher in the lunar new year

for me, this festive season brings me a mixed bag of emotions

happy because it marks a new phase in life, new resolutions etc

sad because it evokes unpleasant memories (not going into details)

the year of the rabbit is no exception

it has been that way since 2006 and i do not foresee a change in circumstances

and i often blame myself for these self-inflicted pain

Thank god for xanax!!!

and God if you really do exist

please make the year a smooth sailing one, albeit challenges and obstacles

because dying is not a solution

some of you may think or say that my life is far better than those in the under-developed countries

where there are famines and no food and clean water

my take is, never make comparisons

even if one has to compare

it would be on the quality of life now and then

mine has for sure deteriorated from the heydays of being filthy rich

when i was in my late twenties

a fortune teller told me that i’d strike the jackpot when i hit the forties

but not without some major challenges in my mid 30’s

36 to be more accurate

there is a high chance that i would be bed-ridden and eventually die

what scares me most was that i used to tell my childhood friends that

i wouldn’t live beyond 36 …………..

the past two years have been tumultuous, pathetic and terribly lonely

while most of my peers are happily married with children and some still high flyers

mine was lived in solitude with no shoulder to cry on

pathetic because it’s a Saturday tonight and it is half past ten as i type

and i am home, yes i am home without an agenda

or a number i could dial to turn things around, nurture my soul whatevs

perhaps i should go to sleep like i always do

and i’d tell myself that tomorrow will be a better day

such is life

Food glorious food

lately the gloomy cold weather has sent everyone into a steamboat frenzy

and i was no exception

the longer it rained the more we craved for steamboat

of all the steamboat restaurants that we tried

there is no doubt that the one near RH plaza at BDC owned by the Chinese lady

was the best

not only because of the soup base, but because they had the most

awesome sauces where one gets to mix them to suit your likings

there is a knock-off steamboat restaurant at 101 that has almost the same, if not all

menu as the one in BDC

its only downfall was the sauces that were a tad different

and the meat were sliced too thin, so thin i couldn’t stop laughing

typing this entry makes me wanna have steamboat tonight

unless the rain stops

which is most unlikely cause it rained the whole of yesterday

and i expect the same for today since it is, after all, the monsoon season….

will starve myself today

In a flick of an eye

37 days have passed

since my cousins arrived on Malaysian shores

today will be the last day of their vacation

before they return to Singapore tomorrow where the grueling begins

i foresee that when they return home

they will be slammed with more homework than ever

in preparation for the new year ahead

and we, especially mum, will miss them heaps

oh well, there’s always next year end

because it is an annual thing

after year-end exams they would be sent back here again

where there is no stress or pressure on studies

miss you guys!!

i wished they could come every 3 months

really i do …..

the sad thing is, i didn’t even take that many

pictures with them

bored in the car

the cousin and I decided to camwhore with her HTC Sense

although i have my doubts about picture quality

the pictures turned out pretty darn good

these are my cousins from Singapore

they come visit me every year-end, for about 1-2 months

and during this period i am most happy

Hello Taipei – Day 6

Day 6 was pretty much free and easy

no plans, no maps, no nothing

so right after breakfast at home we decided to hit Ximending first

since we had alot of time on hand..

and out of the blue, we were both itching for a hairwash

there were many salons to choose from at Ximending so we went to the nearest one

apparently the service was great

and the ambience was equally great, we enjoyed every minute of our time

next stop was Zhongxiao East Rd

to meet up with a friend

there i bumped into a boutique that sells Shibuya stuff

was ecstatic and bought some stuff on the impulse

the lady owner of the boutique was uber friendly

and so was her little doggy

though i had forgotten what his name was

i did get to carry him for a while .. got funny smell though

okla… i said we didn’t have plans

but dinner plans have lor….. we were supposed to meet up with the rest

for dinner at the Grand hotel

the red red one? yea you must know……. if not, just see pictures below

the night ended with a quick visit to the Banqiao market

and then we were off home to pack for departure the following day

very early in the morning!!!

and that ended my Taipei trip

Hello Taipei – Day 5

Continuing from the day before

Day 5 started pretty early as the family wanted to go to the temple

for prayers and what not

a good one-two hours later

the whole group went for lunch at one of the better restaurants in Banciao

we must have ordered tens of dishes

at least it was a smorgasbord of them

but i was pining for fast food eg McD or KFC

cause i was tired of eating Taiwanese food already!!

(notice how thin the skin is??)

this is the perennial favorite among the old folks….

delectable fried man tous that came with it

funny how everything is red and orangey

honestly, everyone had great pickup but lost momentum towards the end

as we chattered throughout lunch

a family friend suggested that we went to Bitan in Xindian

i was elated at the thought of Xindian (Shu qi’s birthtown)

and nodded my head furiously agreeing that we made a stop there

but first i had to go back to Breeze Center to get my bag from Agnes B

i saw a bag that i really liked the night before

which i didn’t buy on impulse and that startled the bf

somehow he sensed that i really liked it and encouraged me to go get it

*hello, no makeup the whole time i was in Taipei

i know i look pale & yucky

i didn’t even put on blusher lo!!!!!!!!

after we sussed that out we began our journey to Bitan

if you look at the MRT map, it is right at the end of the Danshui (red) line

we were told that Bitan was very very romantic

and had a unique color-changing bridge (equally puzzled) like wtf..

but the weather was not on our side, it rained, wtf

we not only had to dodge the rain, we also had to brave the cold!!!

but since we were already there, we snapped a few pictures

and the beauty of the place didn’t translate into the pictures, boy was i disappointed!!

the bf, was, however persistent and insisted we waited it out

and so we parked our arses at Mr Brown (reminded me of Coffee Bean)

chatted over dinner and coffee, and fiddled on our iPhones for two hours

and the rain hadn’t stop!!

that said, we decided to buy clothes and accessories for our phones

and since we couldn’t find any pirated ones during our stay there

we had no choice but to buy it from

an apple outlet at Global mall

and out of the blue (i think it was the rain)

the bf began to have cravings for steamboat …. and thus

we looked around at the foodcourt but the bf kept whining and whining

that we ate steamboat elsewhere

although i was already very tired and feeling gloomy like the weather

i wanted him to be happy and his cravings satiated

we finally found one near our homestay

and the experience turned out pretty darned good

*(i officially like steamboat now) and i crave for it until today

they charge NTD100 per person (ONLY)

and the personal wok was kinda big, portion was huge

enough for the two of us !!!

unlike here where we pay RM50-RM80 for something decent

and that is still not comparable to what we had that night…. i’m salivating already

you know how when it rains and then

you’d love to have something soupy?

if there is something i miss most about Taipei

i’d have to say STEAMBOAT!!

Hello Taipei – Day 4

Day 4 began with a hearty breakfast at the hotel restaurant

there were cereal, porridge, noodles, sandwiches, toast, eggs, fruits, cakes etc

after fueling up for yet another long day

we returned to the room to pack our stuff into a box (courtesy of the hotel)

and left it at the concierge (didn’t want to lug it around)

after which we set foot again to the nearest bus stop

and hopped onto a bus (can’t recall what no)

which was headed for Taipei’s most popular landmark

Taipei 101

my favorite Taiwanese lass

we were both grateful and upset because it was foggy that day

grateful because it meant cool wind in my hair

the latter because pointless to go up to the observatory level on the 87th floor

such is life

i must say i saw alot of things that i wanted to buy and i supposed i did

i finally found a luggage bag that i liked – Eminent

i have always used that brand, besides Samsonite (not anymore)

and all my loot, is hidden inside the luggage you see in the picture above, hehehe

since we weren’t going up for the bird’s eye view of the city

we went back to store away my luggage bag

before heading to Taipei Main Station to buy railway tickets to Ruei Fang

where we would then take a bus up to Jiufen

the train ride was a nice experience

initially i thought i’d be riding on the high speed train

but because the destination was too close, so it was the conservative train for me

choo choo, the ride was approximately 20 min only

like the locals, we bought a bien tan and a drink to feast in the train

unfortunately, it didn’t taste as good as it looked ..

so screw that ….. however the train ride was quite comfortable

so that pretty much made up for the yucky food.. (don’t be fooled guys)

come think of it, i think we ate quite a bit that day

the bf actually had a big bowl of pho in Taipei 101 foodcourt

when i say big, i mean big..

like this big!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i dunno where he found place to store all the food

but so long as he was happy i guess i am ok with it

besides, we had alot of walking to do, which means they’ll be burnt off anyway

i lost 3-4kg after the trip * (grinz)

the bf managed to catch a power nap in the train

while i pressed my nose against the window

looking out at the scenery

i thought Sarawak had alot of greens, turns out Taiwan is pretty green too!!

i guess the first thing one’d notice once we exit the Rueifang station

is that the roads are made of clay, at least i did

i thought that was quite odd

but not all the roads la…..

so the plan was to take the bus up to Jiufen

we cheated

we caught a cab, which cost us NTD180

which is a pretty reasonable price, haha,

i’m just happy i didn’t have to walk that much

i wanted to conserve energy for the walk around Jiufen

which i am glad i did

less walk = less blisters

after the mandatory pictures – scenic background

proof that you’ve been to Jiufen,

we took on ‘Lao Jie’ which loosely translated is Old Street

that was littered with little push carts selling food, drinks, memorabilia etc

the famous yam ball dessert – a must try

Jiufen was a mining town during the Japanese occupation

the village became a tourist attraction not only because of the great scenery

but because also of a movie scene starring Tony Leung there

i could hear many languages including Japanese, Korean, Cantonese

while walking along the winding street

there were also a lot of alleys

which made it very quaint and beautiful

tea houses were aplenty

obviously characterized by Japanese influence also

we were tempted to visit other nearby attractions

but due to time constraint, we had to pass on it thus

we made our way back to the railway station

to head back to Taipei

and on that very night there was some kind of concert

with a lot of artistes expected to perform

they include Jolin, Jay and Show Luo

as much as i had wanted to see it

we had to pass on it as we made an appointment to meet someone that night

Hello Taipei – Day 3 (Part 2)

As we prepared to leave Danshui the immediate plan was

to soak ourselves silly in one of the hotsprings in Beitou hotels

boarded the MRT to Beitou and made a transit to the Xin Beitou line

and caught a cab to the nearest hotspring hub

i was sweating profusely all the way there

we walked and walked and finally came to a natural hotspring

and i was really sweating buckets by then

due to the heat from the hotspring

*not for public use!!!

note: temperature 100 Celcius

jump in, you die!!

hotspring hotels are widely available in Xin Beitou

you don’t have to stay over to enjoy a soak

the cab driver left us at the foot of the hill where there were

hotsprings all over with prices ranging from NTD200-NTD400 per person

i was so freaking tired i decided to patronize the nearest one

thank god the bf said he wanted to have a look at the private room

it was a small room with a bathtub with a hot and cold water tab and worst of all

the place looked really rundown and dirty

actually i was expecting to go for the luxurious hotsprings as seen on TV

the locals told us that we had to walk uphill for more options

i was flabbergasted but i had no choice so i continued walking

and finally settled on Spring City Resort or something

it looked pretty decent on the outside

walked in, paid NTD1,600 for an hour of this hotspring experience

and i enjoyed every minute of it

it was pretty zen inside, obviously influenced by Japanese architecture

an hour flew by quickly and we had to leave the hotel

lucky for us, they provide shuttle service to the Beitou MRT station

boarded the train and made a transit at Taipei Main Station for Ximending (blue line)

took us about 15-20 minutes altogether

the plan was to stay a night at Ximending

we thought we’d be able to find a room so we didn’t make any reservations

the first hotel we went to, Rainbow Hotel was fully booked for the night

the receptionist told us to try our luck at other nearby hotels

we combed the entire area and still couldn’t find a room

because it was a Saturday night

having already walked the entire Ximending area

we opted not to stay for the night

we quickly diverted and caught a cab

and told the driver to find a reasonably-priced hotel nearest to Taipei 101

and the hunt began…… and finally found one

and i was elated as i was totally knackered from the day

after we freshened up we prepped ourselves for Shilin night market

i’ve heard so much about this place

and i was excited to go there because i didn’t get a chance

the last trip there

From our hotel we told the cab driver to bring us to the MRT station

From the Guting (green line) station we took the MRT to Taipei Main Station

and changed platform to the Danshui line and

boarded off at Jiantan

the night market was just opposite the station

the closer i was the more excited i became i dunno why

and when once i arrived

it was street food galore and more shopping

the bf immediately led me to the foody goody area

and ordered a variety of food he couldn’t finish

i settled for plain noodles

cause i couldn’t think right at that point – too tired

although there were plenty to see

surprisingly i couldn’t find any clothes i liked

i think cause i was too too tired.. (repeated 100x at least, lol)

so i bought some gifts from here

toiletry pouches, little print bags and other stuff liddat

to be honest we must have taken literally hundreds of pictures today

but lao niang lazy to upload now

Shihlin really lives up to its reputation, size and variety

but like i’ve said in the previous post

if you’ve been to one night market, you’ve been to all

and that is what it is for me

we covered the whole night market god knows where i got that energy from

and by the time we were back at the hotel it was already close to 2 a.m

Hello Taipei – Day 3 (Part 1)

has got to be the most grueling day in 2010

i walked so much it probably surpassed the total amount (time + distance)

i’ve walked this year – no joke

and i’m grateful it was autumn and not scorching hot summer

we started the day with a light breakfast from 7 11 across the Fuzhong MRT station

alighted at the CKS Memorial Hall station

which happens to be on the blue line as well

though i’ve been here before, the bf wanted to snap some pictures for keep’s sake

actually there were more memorabilia but i didn’t think you’d be interested haha

besides you have got to see it for yourselves…

i forgot the name of this monumental hall….

sorry ar…

anyways, we spent a good hour or more at the site

snapping endless pictures like nobody’s business

under strict instructions from you-know-who

and when we were done, it was time to decide where to go next

but before that we were already tempted by a nearby stall selling sausage hamburgers

after the takeaway, we decided to go to Danshui (red line)

so from CKS Memorial Hall, we changed platforms at Taipei City Hall

and hopped onto the train on the red line

that took us less than 10 minutes to arrive …. i tell you it is real easy to navigate

Danshui / Fisherman’s Wharf / Lover’s Bridge

as soon as we got off the train and walked out of the station

we were greeted by literally hundreds of stalls selling food and drinks,

some i’ve never seen before

and if i had to summarize the place in one word, i’d say it was TOURISTY

a sea side attraction of food and shopping.

i think we spent 1-2 hours visiting each stall and shop on our way to Fisherman’s Wharf

there are two companies operating ferry rides to and fro at NTD50-60 per person

although Fisherman’s Wharf is highly raved for its Lover’s Bridge

I didn’t see anything special to it

Throughout my stay here, the amount of pampered pooches I saw

puts Malaysian pet owners to shame

I even saw a baby stroller that was meant for dogs!!!!

survival tip 101: please bring proper footwear eg. Crocs or walking shoes

sStaying with relatives

i had no worries about wasting money on accomodation

i could go out whenever i wanted to

and return whenever my legs were too tired

and not a cent spent on lodging ....

i did however buy presents for my homestay parents!!

manners ma!!

so i started the day with breakfast at Banciao wet market

i went to the exact stall i visited a year ago

the somewhat skinny woman was still there but

she had forgotten who i was... ;(

but how could i forget good food?!!

Taiwan Sausage!!!! I’ve never seen so many!!

we took our sweet time getting our tummy filled with good food

and then hopped onto the bus, swiped our multipurpose card (for transportation)

to get to the Fuzhong MRT station (blue line)

to make our way to Taipei city center which is about six-seven stations

away from Banciao

*very tricky, Fuzhong is in Banciao, but there is another station called Banciao itself*

but it won't matter because you all won't be staying in Banciao

the MRT system is very easy to use and actually

has been lauded for its functionality

hence, a three times winner of the Best Transportation Award ....

(go google it - lau niang damn lazy)

we stopped at the Zhongxiao Fuxing station

walked out from exit 2 to Sogo (there are two exits to Sogo, two different buildings altogether)

turned left at the nearest alley

and started shopping at the boutiques that carried the latest fashion

one could shop at Sogo

but hindsight reminded me that you'd be paying premium

shopping in malls

besides what's the point of shopping without price haggling?

hahhahahahaha

soon it was lunch and we made our way to Tu Hsiao Yueh

the highly raved restaurant

where celebrities dined

however we didn't meet any!!!

i forgot the address

but yours truly damn considerate lor

i took a photo of the road sign address

in case any of you should visit Taipei, then you can dine there yourself

and tell me if it is THAT good

i think its a cross Japanese/Taiwanese restaurant

we decided to do more shopping and also walk off the calories

the next place we went is a HAVEN for all shoppaholics

better than Pratunam, Chatujak and Sungei Wang combined....

and this takes the crown, dead serious

so from the Zhungxiao Dunhua station

we hopped onto the MRT (blue line) to Houshanpi

exited at gate 4, walked for about 5 minutes along Yongji street

to the corner of Jhongpo North Rd

and BEHOLD!!!

this has got to be the cheapest place for garments, bags, shoes, accessories!!

if memory serves me correctly

they have specialist shops too you know

those that sell only bags, brooches, belts…

there was a shop selling only brooches and the variety/range just blew me away

i know my legs were tired and i had covered only 1/5 of the area

my mum and aunt were pooped

and thus we called it quits and headed back home for dinner….

looking back now, i should’ve ditched dinner

since i thought i’d have another shot at Wufenpu in the next few days

i regret again

anyway, moving on swiftly

if you thought day 2 was a long day,

then day 3 was neverending……..

right after dinner at a restaurant somewhere tucked along Zhongzhen Road

we were itching to go out again….. also to walk the fats off!!!

we wanted to catch a movie and the nearest cineplex was at Global Mall

a new shopping center about 10 min drive from my temporary home

i’m glad the bf insisted we went out

else i’d never have known that going to the movies was so ex!!!

looks like magnum or sports toto shop right?

and if you live in Taipei city, catching a movie

at New York New York would set you back by about NTD700-800

i think it houses one of the largest pet shop i’ve ever seen

and the grooming center is far superior than some of the salons

the bf and i would stop for a drink/fag before we go home everynight..

not at a pub, but 7/11 or family mart down beneath our home

there is one convenience store, at least one, for every block of shops…

no need to drive out to get munchies, just walk a few steps…

i wish our kedai runcit was like theirs lor….

clean and spoilt for choice..

most importantly, at an affordable price

the bf did abit of calculating and there wasn’t a need for damage control

even though we ate quite a bit that day

everything was reasonably priced, nothing exorbitant

except movies!!!

Hello Taipei - Day 1

whoever booked my ticket to Taipei

is a real jerk (happens to be my brother, hehehe)

no doubt he helped me save over RM1k but the departure time for each flight

irks the hell outta me

each flight i took was real early in the morning

meaning i had to wake up at 4ish just to make it in time to the airport

be it KK or Taipei, back and forth

flying at 6am doesn't do it for me lor

but let's give credit where its due

flying MAS last trip cost me well over RM1.6k (airtickets)

on AirAsia, it is just a little below RM600

so that's an extra grand to spend .... thank you

moving on swiftly, i landed at TaoYuan International Airport at about 9am, Oct 14

it was a long walk to the arrival hall

what i noticed about the airport was that it looked refurbished

because the last time i was there, it looked a little tacky

not anymore!!!
about high time......

looks foggy = cold, so damn excited

*10 brownie points for having an air corridor!!
*flew AirAsia, meaning air bridge not a common sight!*

no excuse for getting lost!!

clean and orderly!!

Tip to all: If your stay in Taiwan is about or close to a week long, its best to get a local sim card!!

don't play play, they even have microsim card for iPhone 4!!

Taoyuan is about an hour's drive away from the cityi spent much of the journey looking out to see if the infrastructures have improved
and it has, constructino works on the highways were completed
but they were painted light blue??!!

anyway a good hour later, we arrived at Banciao
where i lived for the next few days
lugged our luggage out and up four storeys to store
unpacked and changed into something light as the weather was scorching hot

everyone was complaining about the hot weather
earlier on the fog i was talking about, tricked me into thinking that it was cold!!!
guess the window was just dirty

Auckland days after i've returned from Taiwan

is a bit too much for me to handle

especially when the flight itself is a long one, 12 hour!!

i wished i could keep up with my parents, unfortunately the body says no

but if i don't go, i'd be missing an opportunity of a lifetime

cause you never know when you can travel so far with your parents

within this few years

it was simply the hardest choice to make

ticket itself cost a staggering RM5.6k to fly MAS

flying Brunei Airlines cost a lot less at RM3.1k

not flying costs even more cause i know i'd splurge on something

to make up for the lost opportunity

sounds like i have already made up my mind, don't I?

which in fact, i'm still deciding ..

i could always fly on a later date, say one week after my parents

that all depends on whether i wanna put myself through

the long haul flight, ALONE...

Just one day to go

before i begin my journey to Taipei

and i'm down with a cold, sore throat and the occasional cough

i'm so sick i'm secretly wishing that i could flag the trip!!!

since my parents and the bf are also sick

DAMN THOSE GERMS!!

i was thinking, that if it wasn't because of the stupid cold

8 days didn't seem enough for me to cover Taipei

as there are many places of interest to discover and explore ...

In Taipei itself, of course there is Ximending, the Harajuku of Taipei

and then there's the infamous Shihlin night market

Longshan Temple, Zhong Xiao East Road

in the Xinyi district which is littered with endless shopping malls

and outside the Taipei city

there is Danshui, famous for the Lover's bridge

Jiufen for its scenery and romantic teahouses

Yeliu for the amazing rock formations

Keelung, a port city, and its famous Miaokou night market

Xindian (Shu Qi's hometown) for its lake

or maybe Wulai for a dip in the hot spring

Yilan via SuHua national highway which has a great ocean view (Pacific Ocean)

walao ...... how to cover all these places when we are all weak in the knees??

i was unsure, until now, if i should bring my boots

but these boots are not made for walking!!! strut around and then die from excruciating pain

but it ain't that cold yet, i mean a jacket would suffice

Last trip to Taiwan

i sported a short hairdo, was in top form

i was so excited i packed one week in advance

*i haven't packed yet, nor have i made reservations to stayover in KK

note to self: *must book it after this post*

was supposed to get everything done on Saturday

but my migraine attack during the weekend

was so severe i slept through both Saturday and Sunday

thank God i am ok today, if not i'd be flying in a terrible state

i feel like i have 1001 things to do

call my aunt in Taiwan to let her know when i am arriving

choose between Jiufen/Keelung or Yilan for excursion trip

buy travel-sized toiletry

anyway enough whining

arrived early in the morning (Taoyuan International Airport)

a lot of green construction underway

In short Day 1 was all about cruising around Taipei and Banciao

did plenty of sightseeing without stopping down

because we were tired from the flight

and wanted to kick off our shoes and relax after all the hazzle dazzle

as most would know

the streets of Taipei are littered with small/medium vendors

that sell snacks/noodles etc

some of the most common found food include

beef noodle, pork chop rice, braised meat rice, noodles

been to one, been to all, more or less

this bridge transports you back a few hundred years? lol

these two landmarks tell me that i am close to home *very important and hard to miss*

getting around in Taipei is easy breezy

unless you don't read Chinese and English!!

this will be the first time i'm traveling abroad with b

together with my parents as well

Taiwan, Taipei

the last time i was there was last March

and i did not cover much of Taipei alone, despite my 10-day trip

this time round, i plan to visit more places since b has never been to Taipei

actually he requested to visit Jiufen (as recommended by his friends)

a quick search on the internet says that

Jiufen is a deserted mining town littered with small quaint shops/teahouses

hearsay, the view from the top, is spectacular

with the Pacific Ocean as the background

we shall see......

via Kota Kinabalu, flying Air Asia

there will be a one night stay in KK

since my flight from KK to Taipei is at 0600 the following day

with one afternoon and one night to spend in KK

i've decided to either visit the islands, or maybe shop around in the city center

or maybe, rent a car and drive to 1Borneo?

no concrete plans to date

Truth is

i have not done any planning though my trip is days away

now it would have been different if i were going alone

or with a bunch of friends

but with my parents, an itinerary is useless!!

i just had my passport renewed a few days ago

was relieved that it only took 1-2 hours to get it done

a big improvement from years ago when it took a whole month

for the application or renewal to go through

i compared the old with the new and

there wasn't much changed

only maybe it has been standardized to 48 pages

and not 32 or 64

this is how my new passport looks like

*dunno why the government can't change it to other colors...

and i think i look better in this passport than the previous one....

which is great because imma use it for five freaking years

aiya i didn't say i was pretty

i merely said i looked better in this picture compared with the one in the old passport

i still prefer the one on my Ic

cause i had falsies on and it gave definition to my eyes

unlike this one, my eyes look botak here

if you ask me i think i wanna get extensions before i go

but lately i've developed the habit of rubbing my eyes and

you can't do that when you have extensions

cause it'll spoil the lashes

my Iphone4 is finally here

although it is the 3gs that i've always wanted

having played around with it

i think i would still need a bit of time getting used to it

let's not forget

that i was a BB user

the touch screen thing was a bit intimidating at first

hopefully i would get the hang of it ***soon

if i were to choose one between the two

BB wins hands down

becoz i think it's more practical

and easier to maneuver

i guess what sets the Iphone apart from the BB

is the amount of applications

ranging from utilities to entertainment

and a bigger screen display

that's about it i think?

physically the Iphone 4 is thicker, imo

and it is not not tapered at the corners

and it doesn't come in white!!

at least that's what i was told

which irks me to no end

i could barely contain my excitement when i looked

lugged our bags to the car

The most tiring day

of my life has got to be today

i'm serious.....

actually it began last night

when i suddenly felt nauseous

and puked hardout

cold sweat all over, it was terrible

this morning i woke up at 8am

and i had to pack my things

go eat breakfast and rushed to the pharmacy

to buy meds and saline for my lenses

rushed off to the airport

to check-in only to find that

my flight was actually at 12.55pm

instead of 11.55pm

and when i boarded the plane

we were delayed by some

silly passengers who boarded the wrong plane

we took off at 1.45pm

arrived at 3.20pm

then there was another one hour drive to town

had to run some errands before

i had dinner

after which we headed for Genting

and then we were delayed again

our car broke down

three times on our journey up the hill

so damn unlucky lor

when we arrived at the hotel

we were again delayed by the hotel staff

that took another one hour or more

right now i'm finally in the room

tell me that is not a long day

i could've flown to L.A already

pissed

not feeling lucky

not going to the casino

A year ago

i would have been very happy

not doing anything but just flicking

from one channel to another on the idiot box

today i'm bored to the skull

sitting through dramas and sitcoms and what nots

never would i have thought

this day would come

i am so depressed

my life is pathetic because

instead of looking forward to weekends

i'm actually longing for a job

now that i'm ~~almost~~ fully recovered
staying home is probably the worst thing on earth
especially during the day
when frenemies are away or out at work

i cannot even imagine
how some people can actually cope with this
sleep during the day
and go out and play by night

it was B's lunar birthday yesterday
we celebrated it again
this time with my family

hope he is happy
if i can't be happy at least

diet, exercise or eat less
i still will put on weight, meaning

that Beyond is coming to town

and that THEY are the ones flying here

and not me flying to KL

or making my way up to the highlands

so much like most of their fans

i made my way to Spring last Saturday

for the 'meet the fans' session

although the group now consists of only two

Ah Paul and Wong Ka Keung

are still my favorites

Although i am not a Beyond die-hard fan

the only saddening thing

is that the concert has been postponed

to January 15th, a 3-month wait

from the concert's actual date, October 3rd

anyhow i am still glad that they are coming

even though it may be a money-making scheme

it is still all good for me

i hope Kuching will play its part as a good host and crowd!!

has become a daily habit

not your normal red tea but real chinese tea

i used to be a hardcore coffee addict

until i found out that each Nescafe sachet contains 10g of sugar

i totally flagged it

back to tea

today's tea of the day is oolong tea

brought back from Taiwan

taste quite good & the good thing

is it's not too harsh on me stomach

like when i go to kopitiam

i normally order chinese tea peng

la-sap tea leaves

not only makes me stomach churn

its also gastric inducing!!

anyway to be honest

i have only water and tea to pick from

given that i'm bent on losing weight

and what better than tea

right?

no more ribena, no more coffee

no more coke, zappel and kickapoo

no more kopi-o-peng or ice lemon tea

i hope this sacrifice

would result in a few kilos lost lor!!

my boo and i decided to do something

about our atrocious weight gain

Day 1

we went jogging at amphitheater

i walked 2 complete rounds

while he jogged 4 rounds and walked another

before we stopped to do some stretching exercise

i would have normally shunned jogging at 5pm

cause in my opinioin

it is much healthier to jog at 6 or 6.30 in the morning

and the air of course, fresher

trouble is, we have a hard time

waking up at 6ish

or more like we'd rather sleep in

during a public holiday or weekends

Day 2

yesterday we went swimming

at first i hesitated to jump into the pool

cause the water damn cold

i damn scared of cold water CAN?

i tried alot of ways to avoid going in

but that couldn't fool the bf

and eventually i gave in and braved the cold!!

geng anot??

after 90 min in the pool

we decided to call it a day

primarily because i hadn't had dindin

and that it was already getting late

it took me less time to get out, say 1 min?

and in no time i was bathing

changed and ready to go MAKAN

settled for late night chicken rice

TODAY

i woke up, sore here sore there

the body is aching soooooooooooooooo badly

and i thought to myself there is no way

i am going for badminton today

so what if i am fat?
